BRIGHTON — Detectives with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office are investigating two separate shootings in Brighton on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019.
The first shooting happened around 4:39 a.m. Deputies were dispatched to the 5200 block of McClain Street where a man was shot after a dispute that started in the Wylam community. Investigators believe Kerry McLemore, 27, shot into the victim’s vehicle. Deputies disclosed the suspect was in the company of a female off-duty police officer at the time of the shooting.
McLemore was arrested on unrelated charges and transported to the Birmingham City Jail. There is no information on the condition of the victim.
The second shooting happened at a convenience store around 6:28 a.m. A man was shot in the parking lot of the store in the 4500 block of Bessemer Superhighway, in Brighton, according to a press release.
Video evidence was obtained and it showed the shooting. Both the victim and the suspect left the scene in separate vehicles. The victim later returned to make a report. The victim sustained a graze wound, according to deputies.
The victim identified the shooter as the ex-boyfriend of a woman that he had dealings with in the past.
