CENTER POINT — The city of Center Point is giving $80,000 out of its general fund budget to the four Jefferson County schools that are in its city limits.
The amount of money is divided between the schools based on the population. Schools in the city limit include Center Point Elementary, Erwin Elementary, Erwin Middle School and Center Point High School. Center Point High School will receive the most, $21,000, according to Mayor Tom Henderson.

Center Point High School principal Van Phillips said the school uses the money from the city, across the board, including athletics and education.
“We are humbled every year that the city of Center Point provides for the schools located in the city of Center Point,” said Phillips. “For us, it’s uplifting that city leaders have that much invested in us for the children that we serve in our community.”
In the past, the money has been used for Chromebooks for students and for travel to athletic events and educational field trips.
