BIRMINGHAM — Detectives with the Birmingham Police Department are investigating after a man was found dead inside his apartment on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019.
Kim Paul Walker, 63, of Birmingham, was found around 6:45 p.m. after his co-workers called for a welfare check.
Police said his co-workers were concerned after Walker suffered a head injury while helping escort unruly patrons out of the bar where he worked. The incident happened around 2 a.m. Thursday. Walker went home to his apartment at 951 18th Street South.
When officers arrived at the apartment, they found him unresponsive. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded along with the Jefferson County Coroner and pronounced Walker dead on the scene.
The Birmingham Police Department is now investigating the death as a homicide. Detectives are asking anyone with information to call them at (205) 254-1764, or call Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama at (205) 254-7777.
