BIRMINGHAM — The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the individual killed in an explosion that occurred in East Lake on Tuesday evening.
Boris Sailes Reynolds, 49, from Birmingham, was identified as the man killed in an explosion around 7 p.m. on Tuesday at 80th Street South between Fourth and Fifth avenues. Authorities responded to the scene and found two men critically injured in the blast.
Reynolds was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:24 p.m. The second man was taken to UAB Hospital’s Trauma Center where he remains in critical condition.
According to news reports, Reynolds was visiting the second man and the two were believed to be moving oxygen tanks when the explosion occurred.
“It was a pretty significant explosion,’’ Battalion Chief Sebastian Carrillo said.
The explosion was so powerful that it damaged a neighboring house. The two people inside the house were unharmed.
“No foul play of any kind is suspected,” Carrillo said.
