TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville Police Department responded after a hang-up call was made from the 100 block of North Chalkville Road on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2019. The officers quickly realized the call was much more than an accident.
According to Detective Ben Short, the officers arrived and found a domestic incident was taking place. As they attempted to make contact with one of the people involved, Short said the man fled the scene in a red Chevrolet Camaro.
Officers attempted to stop the man and later discovered the Camaro wrecked in the 3500 block of Pear Street. Police set up a perimeter and called out K9 Leo and Detective Holloway to track the suspect. Short said the K9 was able to locate the man and police took him into custody.
“The teamwork displayed by our patrol officers who were able to quickly establish a perimeter is a testament to their professionalism,” said Short. “The quick action of our patrol officers led to the successful track by K9 Leo and his handler, Det. Holloway.”
Sullivan is accused of going to his ex-girlfriend’s home to talk about their past relationship. Short said the victim said after she told him her heart wasn’t in the relationship anymore, Sullivan poured water on her. When she tried to call 911, the victim said Sullivan tried to take her phone from her. The victim said just before police arrived, the suspect made derogatory comments towards her and spit in her face.
Gavin Sullivan, 21, of Talledega, is facing several charges. According to Short, those charges are domestic violence third degree, interfering with a domestic violence call, unlawful possession of marijuana first degree, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer and criminal trespass third degree.
Sullivan was taken to the Jefferson County Jail, where he posted a $21,500 bond and was released.
Sullivan is considered innocent until proven guilty.
