BIRMINGHAM — A Birmingham man was sentenced to 121 months in prison for being in possession of nearly half a kilogram of fentanyl, according to United States Attorney Jay E. Town.
Bob Cotchery III, 48, was found guilty in May, after a two-day jury trial of possession with the intent to distribute over 400 grams of fentanyl.
Attorney Town said fentanyl is a dangerous and deadly drug.
“Another peddler of this deadly poison has been removed from the streets of the Northern District of Alabama,” Town said. “This sentence sends a clear message that the death and destruction of those who want to introduce fentanyl into my District will be met with the full force of the Department of Justice and federal prison beds are reserved for all them, this one for over a decade.”
Town credited the Birmingham Police Department and the DEA in helping with the case. Police arrested Cotchery during a traffic stop in the Norwood area on Dec. 14, 2017.
