TALLADEGA — The season came to a close on a bright note for Moody as the Blue Devils rallied to defeat Talladega, 21-14, on Friday to put an emphatic stamp on the 2019 campaign.
The Blue Devils conclude the year 4-6, 2-5 in Class 5A, Region 5. Moody was left out of the playoffs for the fifth consecutive year.
Moody needed the magic of the rally cap to defeat a Talladega team that jumped out to a 14-7 lead to begin the second half following a 57-yard drive that struck gold with a Quontavius McKenzie 1-yard plunge with 6:53 remaining in the third quarter.
Not to be outdone, Moody promptly responded after quarterback Connor Rush hit Robert Grames for an 85-yard touchdown to knot the game at 14-all.
Late in the fourth quarter, with the game still tied at 14, Terrance Moore scored the go-ahead touchdown for Moody on a 2-yard touchdown run that gave the Blue Devils the 21-14 lead with five minutes to go in the game. Moore finished the night with 100 yards rushing.
Madness would then ensue as Moody’s Adam Wallace intercepted Talladega’s Nigel Scales on the Tigers’ next possession, but the Blue Devils were unable to capitalize with a score.
With the ball yet again, this time in the waning moments of the fourth quarter, Talladega marched down the field searching for a score to even the game; however, Scales threw yet another interception, which proved to be more costly for Talladega this time around.
Moody would hold on to take the win.
