BIRMINGHAM — The Jefferson County Coroner said a woman was hit and killed by a train on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019.
Coroner Bill Yates has identified the woman as Shirley Prewitt Mitchell, 68, of Birmingham. Mitchell was struck around the 3200 block of 29th ave N. at an unknown time.
Yates said that after she was struck, Mitchell removed herself from the tracks in an effort to seek help. She was discovered at 10:11 p.m. by a passerby and taken to UAB where she was pronounced dead at 10:59 p.m.
The Birmingham Police Department is still investigation.
