HOOVER — A Memphis man is in custody on Friday after Hoover Police charged him with human trafficking following a theft complaint at a Hoover motel.
According to news reports, authorities were called to the Econo Lodge off of Montgomery Highway on Monday after a woman reported that she was involved in a dispute with a man who stole her belongings and left her stranded at the motel.
After talking with the victim, authorities determined that the woman was possibly a human trafficking victim. She was taken to a safe location and arrangements are being made to return her to her home state.
The suspect, Robert Ladarius Sharp, 26, was then located in the Huntsville area after the Hoover Police Department coordinated with the Huntsville Police Department. Sharp was apprehended on unrelated charges.
Sharp is currently in the Madison County Jail on charges of second-degree human trafficking. He will be transferred to the Jefferson County Jail upon his release.
His bond will be set at $100,000 with additional charges possible.
