GADSDEN — A registered Etowah County sex offender found himself in custody once again on child pornography charges, Rainbow City officials said.
Cody Night Helton, 31, was taken into custody on Tuesday after he was discovered in possession of child porn photos along with videos of bestiality. Helton was convicted in 2018 of child abuse and possession of child pornography. He sexually abused a 10-year-old girl. Authorities discovered over 250 images of child porn on his cell phone.
According to news reports, officials received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and ALEA’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in October regarding Helton. The police then discovered enough probable cause to obtain a search warrant on Helton’s residence.
Upon executing the search warrant, officials discovered that he was not staying at his registered place of residence, but he was instead staying in Gadsden. Helton was taken into custody without incident at the 2000 block of Emma Sansom Avenue where police discovered images of child pornography on his cell phone.
He was taken to the Etowah County Detention Center where officials slapped Helton with 21 arrest warrants for possession of child pornography and a warrant for possession with the intent to distribute. His bond is set at $365,000.
