BIRMINGHAM — A search for missing Kamille “Cupcake” McKinney on Sunday failed to turn up any signs of the 3-year-old girl who has been missing for more than a week.
The area searched was on the east side of Birmingham in about a 2-mile radius just north of Springville Road near Huffman Road.
Birmingham Police and Birmingham Fire and Rescue, along with other undisclosed agencies and volunteers, began a grid search at 1 p.m., Birmingham Police spokesman Sgt. Johnny Williiams said.
McKinney has been missing since Oct. 12, when she disappeared from the Tom Brown Village public housing project in Birmingham where a birthday party was being held.
Police arrested two potential persons of interest and are looking for at least one more, but they say they don’t know where the child might be.
Authorities released surveillance footage on Friday that showed two small children playing when one man with a distinctive limp approached the children, who then followed out of view of the camera. Police said the man with the limp is a suspect. They have not located him.
An amber alert issue for the girl has been extended to neighboring states.
