JEFFERSON COUNTY — The Jefferson County Board of Education released a Notice of Vacancy for Superintendent. The notice can be read below.
The position became open after the resignation of Dr. Craig Pouncey.
Dr. Walter Gonsoulin is currently serving as the interim superintendent.

PROCESS AND TIMELINE FOR SELECTING A NEW SUPERINTENDENT
The Board recently approved the resignation of Dr. Craig Pouncey. Therefore, we have a vacancy in the office of Superintendent that we must fill.
In compliance with applicable Alabama law, we will post a notice of vacancy for thirty days. The notice of vacancy will contain a description of the job, the required qualifications, the salary range, instructions on how to apply, and where to obtain and submit an application.
The Board has asked the law firm of Bishop, Colvin, Johnson & Kent to serve as a contact for interested applicants and to accept applications on its behalf. The contact information for the law firm will be included in the notice, which will be posted tomorrow, October 18, 2019, and interested applicants will have until 4 p.m. on November 17, 2019 to apply.
The Board may interview some or all of the finalists. However, we may choose to make a decision based solely on the written applications. Any meetings with respect to filling of the Superintendent vacancy will be properly noticed in accordance with Alabama law. The Board intends to complete the process and name a new Superintendent by the end of November
