TRUSSVILLE — Opening ceremonies for the Alabama Special Olympics events were held in Trussville on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019.
The Trussville local games, which included athletes from all over the Birmingham-metro, began with a ceremonial torch run at the Trussville football stadium.
Several student resource officers from the Trussville City School system participated in the lap around the track with the kids.
According to its website, the mission of the Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, in order to help them realize their full potential and to help them develop skills.
