TRUSSVILLE — A local Boy Scout is working his way to Eagle Scout status with a big service project that will benefit the city of Trussville.
Alex Karmondi, 15, of Boy Scout Troop 216, plans to apply for Eagle status. For his recent project, Karmondi built two picnic tables, with attached benches and a wooden garbage can frame. The items are placed on the mall in Trussville.
Karen Karmondi said she has seen the work and dedication her son has put into becoming an Eagle Scout.

“I could not possibly be more proud of him,” she said. “We are so proud of him and the other scouts that helped him. The quality of the work they did and the teamwork we saw was absolutely amazing.”
Alex Karmondi’s father, Kimball Karmondi, serves as assistant scoutmaster for Troop 216.
“I’m ecstatic for him to take on a project, build it, create it and make it come together from start to finish,” he said. “He may ask questions but basically he did all of it.”
Kimble Karmondi said his son also exhibited leadership skills during the project.
Alex Karmondi plans to begin the application process to earn Eagle status.
Lowe’s donated all the materials needed for the project.
