From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville Police Department and Academy Sports + Outdoors came together to brighten lives of 19 children from Big Oak Ranch. The children were given $300 shopping sprees on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019.
Big Oak Ranch operates 19 homes. One child from each home was chosen for this year’s Shop with a Cop.
The kids were offered clothing, footwear, sports equipment and items for their home. The kids were also given the chance to tour police vehicles and meet Trussville’s K9 officer, Leo.
The event is in conjunction with this year’s National Night Out in Trussville, which is scheduled for Oct. 1, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. National Night Out is a community outreach that helps build relationships between communities and law enforcement. There will be music and kid activities. In addition to festivities, law enforcement provides citizens with safety demonstrations, visits from emergency personnel, and much more.
Academy is hosting similar events in 35 other cities.
