BIRMINGHAM — In honor of breast cancer awareness month in October, fire departments across Alabama will sell limited-edition pink T-shirts to the public for $15 for short sleeve and $20 for long-sleeve shirts. Proceeds will help fund life-saving breast cancer research in Alabama.
This promotion is a collaboration between The Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama and fire departments across the state that began in 2010. The “Pink Ribbon Project” T-shirt campaign raises money for breast cancer research in Alabama.
“We appreciate the men and women from our Alabama Fire Departments for all that they do throughout the year, and them taking time to support this outreach to their local communities to help support research and save lives,” Jill Carter, Board of Directors President of the BCRFA said in a BCRFA press release.
Per the release, the idea for the “Pink Ribbon Project” began in 2010 when a few creative fire departments wanted to organize a city-wide fundraising effort to support breast cancer research. They shared BCRFA’s passion for ensuring that all proceeds stay in Alabama to help attract the best and brightest researchers and support life-saving research. The program officially took off in 2011 with the sale of the first “pink” fire department T-shirts. Since then, the shirts designs have changed, but the goal remains the same: to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research in Alabama.
