GADSDEN — An Etowah County judge ordered a mental evaluation on a man accused in a deadly shooting at a home in Gadsden.
Etowah County deputies believe Orva McDonald, Jr., 61, shot and killed Douglas Sparks on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019.
ABC 33/40 reports the judge ordered the evaluation as a condition to McDonald’s release on bond after investigators said McDonald admitted to the shooting but doesn’t remember what happened. McDonald does not have a criminal history.
Sparks was shot three times while working on plumbing at the home.
McDonald’s attorneys have asked the court to lower McDonald’s $1 million cash bond.
