HOOVER, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama school system is being sued by parents who say officials knew their first-grade daughter was being sexually assaulted by other students but did nothing about it.
News outlets report the Hoover City Schools system and teachers at Trace Crossings Elementary School are being sued for negligence.
The lawsuit says female classmates sexually assaulted the girl by holding her down, pulling off her underwear and groping her. It says the school notified the parents well after the assault and said they’d change her classroom. They didn’t.
The lawsuit says the abuse continued; One student bit the girl’s face and lip. It says the girl is now homeschooled and suffers from severe emotional distress.
Hoover filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit. Plaintiffs have until October to respond.
