HOOVER — The Hoover Police Department introduced its newest Hoover High School narcotics K9 and resource officer on Tuesday. Obi, a 1-and-a-half-year-old pure-bred lab, will take to the grounds of the high school with his newest partner, officer Kyle Brohl.
“I love having him,” Brohl said in a video put out by the HPD. “It’s been fun.”
Obi began his law enforcement career in January 2019. He finished his training with a handler late this past year. His primary job will be as a narcotics K9 and resource officer, according to a HPD Facebook post.
“He’s very hyper and energetic,” Brohl said. “That’s good for having him with the kids. A kid might be having a bad day and next thing you know they’re coming down to pet Obi. They have a smile on their face for the 10 seconds that they’re petting them. Things like that he’s good for.”
