JEFFERSON COUNTY — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office announced it has a new app for residents. The app offers real-time access to news and services.
Users are able to download the app and apply for pistol permits, view the Jefferson County Jail inmate roster and search the county’s sex offender database. Sheriff Mark Pettway said he hopes the app will bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community.
“Rolling out this app is another way we can engage with and keep the residents of Jefferson County well informed,” said Pettway. “The sex-offenders feature, which is location-based, will show our residents exactly where registered sex offenders live and how close they are to playgrounds and schools. We believe that it is important to give the residents this information in real-time.”
Other information available on the app includes traffic alerts, breaking news, press releases and events.
“It’s imperative that we fulfill our mission to protect and serve the residents of Jefferson County in every way possible, and that includes using all technology we currently have access to,” said Pettway.
The app is available in the Apple Store and on Google Play for Android users.
