ATHENS — An Athens city councilman and his wife are in ICU at a Huntsville hospital after being struck by a car and suffering serious injuries. Police have charged their 33-year-old son in the incident.
Around midnight on Thursday, Athens City Councilman Frank Travis called 911 to report the incident, but dispatchers had trouble understanding him, according to WAFF.
When police arrived, they found the councilman and his wife, Sharon Travis, injured outside their home. The victims were rushed to Huntsville Hospital where they underwent surgery for their injuries.
Following an investigation, police charged their son, 33-year-old Sean Travis, with two counts of first-degree domestic violence assault. He is being held in the Limestone County Jail.
