BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department announced the arrest of a suspect in a homicide investigation.
Dennis Coleman, 48, of Birmingham, is facing a capital murder charge in connection to the death of a man on Friday, Aug. 30, 2019.
Officers responded to the call around 11:20 p.m. They found the victim on the front porch of a home at 5417 Watson Ave. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded along with the Jefferson County Coroner and pronounced the victim deceased from a gunshot wound. The victim was later identified as Erick Hutchins, 44, of Birmingham.

During the investigation, officers learned residents in the neighborhood called 911 after hearing a gunshot in the area.
Coleman is considered innocent until proven guilty.
