GARDENDALE — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest in connection to a bomb threat at Gardendale High School on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019.
The 16-year-old male was transported to Juvenile Detention, where he will be charged with making terrorist threats, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators said the threat was made in the form of a phone call and that’s how the suspect was tracked.
The sheriff’s office said it was made aware of the threat at 5 a.m., Thursday. Deputies from the School Resource Division responded with K9 units and checked the school.
The start of school was delayed until 10:30 a.m.
Additional school resource officers were ordered on campus for the rest of the day. Sheriff’s deputies, Gardendale Police and school administrators are working together to ensure the safety of students, according to the sheriff’s office.
