From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Former Clay-Chalkville and now Alabama freshman defensive lineman DJ Dale was named to the Crimson Tides’ starting lineup prior to their opening season game against Duke this Saturday in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Dale was one of six linemen signed to the Crimson Tide’s class of 2019.
Dale, a four-star recruit, has impressed the Alabama coaching staff since he first arrived on campus. He has seen first-team reps at nose tackle since the spring. The 6-foot-3, 308-pound tackle arrived at Alabama as the No. 18 defensive tackle and the No. 9 player in Alabama.
Alabama was drawn to Dale’s desire, instincts and his ability to use his size despite his age. Since enrolling in the spring, Dale has lost around 22 pounds and has been a force throughout practice. He joined Alabama despite offers from Auburn, Clemson, Florida State and Tennessee among others.
