Faye Stanford Blaylock, age 84, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 21, 2019.
She was born in Lamar County Alabama, the first of four daughters to Lester L. and Vernie (Clifton) Stanford. She is preceded in death by her husband of nearly 20 years, Albert “Shine” Lional Blaylock. She was an active and dedicated member of Gardendale Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church for over 30 years. Ms. Blaylock faithfully served on the church’s finance committee in addition to other volunteer service roles within her church. Belonging to the United Methodist Women, her unwavering faith and devotion to God guided her life daily. Ms. Blaylock, always intellectually ahead of her time, received her diploma from Sulligent High School in 1954 and later graduated from Alverson-Draughon Business College. In 1957 she began her 37-year professional career with AmSouth Bancorporation, serving as a Branch Vice President at the company’s corporate headquarters for multiple years prior to her retirement. She was a strong, determined, well-travelled, and beautifully independent woman. An amazing conversationalist and a true friend; above all Ms. Blaylock loved The Lord and was passionate about her family. She was generous to everyone, and has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts.
Her survivors include her three sisters, Ruth (Stanford) Spruiel, Shirley (Stanford) and her husband James D. Nolen, and Dorothy (Stanford) and her husband Herman D. Taylor; her five nieces, Myra (Spruiel) and her husband Barry L. Roberts, Donna (Nolen) and her husband Steve W. Howard, Deanna (Nolen) and her husband J. Patrick Curren, Rebecca (Taylor) and her husband Gregory R. McQuagge, and Lindsey J. Taylor; and her nephew, Tommy E. Spruiel and his wife Amy H. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother-in-law, Kenneth E. Spruiel; and her nephew, Stephen L. Spruiel.
