TRUSSVILLE – The wait is nearly over. Husky football is set to brighten our Friday nights and bring joy into our lives as Hewitt-Trussville kicks off the season this Friday, Aug. 23.
The Huskies will be launching into the season in one of the most exciting ways imaginable. This year’s season opener will feature a match up with Pinson Valley.
Pinson Valley is coming off of back-to-back 6A championships. They are a strong, fast, versatile team sure to offer up a few surprises; most notably whether Taylor Nix or Barry White will be taking on the role of quarter-back.
The Huskies are sure to have some surprises of their own. Known as a team with a solid offense, a brand new defensive coordinator, Sean Talsma, had been brought into the program and is looking to debut a defense that can adapt and overcome any situation.
“We’ll be multiple,” Talsma said. “You go to do what your kids allow you to do, you can’t go in saying you’re a 4-3 guy and if you don’t have enough defensive line-man it doesn’t make sense to force it … so, we’re going to be multiple, and we’ll do some three-down some four down. A lot of it is going to be similar to what I’ve done in the past; that is what I’m comfortable with. I also talk to the other coaches on the defense and say, ‘Hey, what can you bring to the table to be a great defense?’ It is not just about me. It is the whole group together, all pulling in the same direction.”
So, you’ve got to ask yourself one question: Are you ready for some football? If that answer is yes, and that answer should be yes, be sure to make it down to the Hewitt-Trussville Stadium this Friday.
Game time is 7 p.m.
