SMITH LAKE — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Marine Patrol Division resumed the search for a woman missing on Smith Lake.
Crews searched for Kelsey Nicole Starling, 26, who was involved in a boat crash on July 4.
ALEA and several other agencies used underwater cameras, dive teams and search dogs to try to find the missing woman, to no avail. ALEA suspended the search on July 19, but Sgt. Chad Pate said personnel from Smith Lake Task Force, Deepwater Search and Recovery, and Houston County Search and Rescue will be participating in a renewed effort as of Aug. 19.
“Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Marine Patrol troopers will be on hand to enforce an idle speed zone in the area of Rock Creek where the search will take place,” said Pate. “This operation will continue throughout the week.”
The boat crash occurred in the Rock Creek area of Smith Lake. Five people were injured in the collision between two boats.
The operator of the boat that Starling was on was arrested and charged with boating under the influence.
