CENTER POINT – Summer Waters, of Luverne, Alabama, has been crowned Center Point’s 2019 Outstanding Teen.
Waters has been in pageants since she was 9 months old. Her first title as Baby Miss Trojan catapulted her into the world of glamour and smarts.
“It’s always been a part of my life,” said Waters. “I think a lot of people think that pageants are just about beauty, but they’re about a lot more.”
The 15-year-old said she is looking forward to serving in the city of Center Point.
“My platform is saving and promoting arts education. My catch-phrase is A-B-C-D,” she said.
“A” stands for attendance, “B” stands for benefits, “C” stands for creativity and “D” stands for diversity. Those things, said Waters, are how arts impact young people.
“I want to implement a group called ‘Peer Partners’ into my platform,” Waters said. “It’s where kids can talk to each other about what’s going on in their home life and about bullying. I want kids to be able to express themselves through art.”
Waters will compete in the Miss Alabama Outstanding Teen pageant, March 6 – 8, 2020. She will be singing for her talent and is looking forward to preparing for the pageant by practicing for the interview section and by keeping up with current events.
Her favorite things: Everything 80s and Princess Diana. Waters said she takes her title seriously and hopes to influence younger children.
“Being a cheerleader at school, I know they (younger kids) are watching me, so I need to be very careful with everything I do and I need to be very tactful,” said Waters.
