BIRMINGHAM — A Birmingham police officer has made a tremendous recovery from injuries he sustained in the line of duty.
Officer Cullen Stafford was injured in a shootout after police responded to a robbery in progress call at a convenience store in the 500 block of 23rd Street North, on July 17, 2019.

Stafford was struck multiple times and was taken to UAB where he was taken into emergency surgery, according to Sgt. Johnny Williams of the Birmingham Police Department.
Another officer was injured when he fell during the incident.
Police said that Stafford appreciates all the support he has received from the community and the city of Birmingham as he continues his rehabilitation.
