MOODY — The Moody Fire Department is on the scene of a fire at the Moody Blue Bar on Moody Parkway.
The business caught fire around 10 a.m. on the morning of Thursday, Aug. 15. The owner of the bar, who does not own the building, said he was cleaning a propane grill by letting the grease cook off of it. He said he went to a nearby store to get a Coca Cola and when he returned the building was on fire.
“Today was our five year anniversary,” said bar owner Dixon Stracener. “I don’t own the building, the building is leased. I talked to the landlord; I don’t know if they are going to rebuild or what.
“I can tell you what happened. We got a grill outside, we had cut it on to burn the grease off. (We) shut the lid, shut it down, we ran down to the store to get a drink and in the five minutes we were gone something exploded. (I) don’t know what because the lid was still on and the propane tanks were still intact. It (the grill) was outside and there really wasn’t anything out there to burn.”
Moody Blue Bar released a statement on Facebook saying, “We are not completely sure what happened yet. But we are sad to say that it looks like our little place off the Parkway is gone. I appreciate all the calls and texts I’m so sorry that I can’t answer them all right now. I am on my way home and trying to keep it together. We’ve had 5 fantastic years of hard work and friendships, and I just really can’t put anything into words right now. We love you all dearly, thank you for your concern! We will try to keep you updated when we find out something. Thank you, Val.”
Police are also on the scene and they are asking drivers to avoid the area. Moody Blue Bar is at 2318 Moody Parkway.
Stracener said it appears the large fire has destroyed the building. He is not sure what the future holds for the Moody Blue Bar.
“Whether we rebuild or not or move it,” said Stracener. “I don’t know at this point. I don’t know what the owners of the building are going to do.”
No one was in or around the building when the fire started. No injuries have been reported.
