BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department arrested a woman in connection to a domestic-related shooting death in the city’s west precinct.
Melissa King, 31, of Birmingham, is charged with murder in the death of 32-year-old Brittaney Junious, also of Birmingham.
On Saturday, Aug. 3, officers arrived on the scene at 5917 Warner St. after receiving calls about a person shot. The victim was found on the sidewalk around 3:14 p.m. and was taken to UAB Hospital by Birmingham Fire and Rescue, where she later died.
Investigators located the suspect in a shopping center nearby and took her into custody.
King is now in the Jefferson County Jail.
Detectives said the shooting happened during a dispute between the suspect and the victim and was associated with their ongoing relationship.
