IRONDALE — Kirkwood by the River Assisted Living Community in Irondale, which according to the Jefferson County Department of Health is located at 3605 Ratliff Road in Irondale, scored a 71 on its July 22 inspection by the Jefferson County Department of Health, according to county documents.
Remarks in the county inspection report showed several areas in which Kirkwood by the River was cited.

According to records, Kirkwood by the River was instructed to provide an employee health policy that states what actions are necessary when an employee has a specific symptom or diagnosis related to diseases that are transmissible through food. Communication of the policy to employees must be verifiable. County Documents show that the signed copies were in a binder inside a file cabinet. The cabinet was thrown away last month.
Records also indicate that Kirkwood by the River was directed to discard RTE/TCS foods that have exceeded seven days or for which the date of preparation cannot be determined.
Remarks further show that Kirkwood by the River was directed to maintain certain foods at 135 Fahrenheit or above while other food items must be kept at 41 Fahrenheit or below.
Records show that Kirkwood by the River was instructed to clean equipment, food contact surfaces, and utensils to sight and touch.
Documents show that Kirkwood by the River was directed to clean facilities (floors, walls, ceilings, ceiling/wall vent covers, fixtures, etc.) as often as necessary to maintain cleanliness. According to the county remarks, the floors to the walk-in freezer were soiled in debris.
