CLAY — A landscaping company out of Argo made a special trip to Clay after seeing a post on Facebook about a family in need.
Bernard’s Lawn Service cut grass for a family in Paradise Valley after learning neighbors had complained about the yard not being cut. The person who lives in the home, Randa Ragland, posted a photo on Facebook of a letter she received in the mail. The letter asked her to take pride in the property and cut the grass. But, Ragland’s response was heartwrenching.
Ragland said her son, Jaxen, who is only 3 years old, has autism and is fighting stage four neuroblastoma cancer. Ragland posted photos of her son in the hospital.
“Our lives consist of doctors visits,” Ragland posted. “And clinic appointments. Then we do hospital stays. For chemo and transplants. And surgeries. My son has literally been fighting for his life. He has been hospitalized more then 20 times had over 7 surgeries.”
Ragland said she hopes the message to others is to be kind.
“Try being kind to your neighbor or the stranger you let in when there’s traffic,” she said. “Say hello to people. Just kindness.”
Bernardo Guerrero, the owner of Bernard’s Lawn Service, said when his wife saw the post, she immediately told him about it and they jumped to help.
“I was in the area and I knew she needed the help,” Guerrero said.
Guerrero said he was happy to help someone. He said he always takes advantage of those opportunities.
“I didn’t do this to get more jobs,” Guerrero said. “Our business is really good. I do what I have to do to help.”
As for Jaxen Ragland, he is now undergoing frequent chemotherapy treatments and he is healing from a stem cell transplant and surgery to remove tumors. The family has a GoFundMe account set up for donations.
