BIRMINGHAM — A Springville man died in a head on collision in Birmingham Saturday, July 27.
According to authorities, an off-duty police officer was in the area and observed a woman turning southbound onto Carraway Boulevard. The officer noted that the woman was traveling southbound in the northbound lane and attempted to make her aware that she was traveling on the wrong side of the road; he flashed his lights and honked his horn.
Police said the driver continued on the wrong side of the road until her vehicle collided head-on with another vehicle at Carraway Boulevard and 19th Avenue North.
The male driver was pronounced dead on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue. The female driver later died of her injuries at UAB Hospital. No one else was in either car.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the two victims as Marcus Brady Bergeron, 34, of Springville, and Chanda Leigh Galloway, 25, of Dora.
