SPRINGVILLE — A unique shopping option is coming soon to Springville. Shop Bob’s Unclaimed Freight will be opening on Marietta Road on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019.
Shop Bob’s is a family-owned and operated variety store that will carry a unique collection of items that were lost in shipping. Bob Ping, his son, Christopher Spivey, and Bob’s son-in-law, Alan Callahan, are opening the store after selling similar items online.
“What we buy is freight, by the pallet, that has been lost in the shipping process,” said Ping. “Most of it is U.S. – based, but we also have some interesting stuff from all around the world.”
Ping said 98% of the merchandise will be new items at a low price.
“Everyone that comes in is going to get a great deal,” Ping said. “We get online and we look at Amazon or eBay, then we try to reduce the price by another 25%.”
Ping also said the store’s stock will change frequently.
“You can come in one day and come in a few days later and see all new merchandise,” he said. “It’s never the same stuff.”
Shop Bob’s Unclaimed Freight will carry home goods, electronics, small kitchen appliances, fragrances and jewelry.

“We’re going to be really proud of our jewelry counter,” Ping said. “We got it from a Zale’s that was going out of business and we’re going to have some sales on some really nice pieces, including stuff from Tiffany’s.”
Ping said opening pallets feels like Christmas morning for his family.
“It’s really fun when a new load comes in because we don’t know what we’re getting,” he said. “We’re having so much fun with it. They always say, ‘If you don’t want to work, find something fun and do that.’ That’s what we’re doing.”
The store will also have collectibles and antiques.
“Just a ton of unusual stuff,” said Ping. “We have these things that look like they’re made out of burlap, they look like people figures. I think they came from Austria. We have really unique international finds.”
Ping said he is happy to bring something unique to the city of Springville.
“We thought this would be a great format to bring people this stuff at a really discounted price,” said Ping. “We’re going to be like a Saks and a Walmart, all rolled into one.”
The store will be open Tuesday – Saturday. Hours will be Tuesday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Saturdays, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. On the first day of business, Saturday, Aug. 3, the store will be open from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. The store is at 37 Marietta Road (Hwy 174), Springville.
