BIRMINGHAM — Birmingham Police have identified a homicide victim from an incident that occurred Tuesday, July 23.
The deceased has been identified as Deterius Mathews, 27, of Birmingham.
Authorities said officers from the East Precinct responded to a call of a person shot in the 6700 block of Interlaken Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located the victim lying on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived and transported the victim to UAB Hospital for treatment. Officers later received information that the victim had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.
According to police, there are no suspect(s) in custody. An investigation is ongoing.
