From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
TRUSSVILLE — Abby Swaney is this year’s winner of the winter/spring award for the Bedzzz Express MVP Athletic Scholarship. A recent graduate of Springville High School, Swaney displayed excellence and a drive to achieve on the softball field as well as in the classroom.
The Bedzzz Express MVP Scholarship was created for just such determination, according to Bedzzz Express Vice President David Riddle.
“We wanted to reinvest in the communities that are around us,” said Riddle. “And this is one way that, when it was brought to our attention through you guys at The Trussville Tribune, that we could help a scholarship athlete that had also excelled in academics, and Abby is one of those.”
Swaney was a player for the Springville Tiger’s softball team and helped the Tiger’s win four state championships. She pitched a shut out in the 5A Area 10 Tournament and was even named to the ASWA 5A First team on five occasions.
She graduated from high school with a 4.0 GPA and plans to attend Samford University, where she will major in pharmacy.
Swaney beamed as she was presented the scholarship check for $1,000 by Riddle.
