BIRMINGHAM — The National Weather Service in Birmingham confirmed a tornado hit Dallas County on Thursday, June 6, 2019.
The tornado first touched down six miles West/Northwest of Selma at 4:07 p.m. A few people reported seeing the twister on the ground along County Road 214. Several trees were snapped off, branches were downed and one home had roof damage. The tornado stayed on the ground for .75 mile and had winds of 75 mph.
On Friday, June 7, a thunderstorm caused winds of 59 mph at Dannelly Field. Around the same time, a storm caused damage in Elmore County. Trees were downed on Coosada Parkway in Coosada. Damage was also reported at Gunter Air Force Base. Large trees were uprooted or snapped across the Montgomery metro area, including the Alabama State University Campus and the Forest Hills subdivision.
In Northport, a trampoline was destroyed and trees were reported down in Tuscaloosa. Those winds were in the 50 mph range.
Other areas with wind damage Friday were Reeltown, Beauregard, the Robert G. Pitts Airport in Lee, Beulah, Smiths Station, Sumter, Marengo County and Pickens County.
Record rainfall was recorded in Anniston on Friday. A total of 2.57 inches was recorded, breaking the old record of 1.83 inches in 2003.
On Saturday, June 8, the Russell County area experienced flash flooding. Some roads were deemed impassible due to flooding between Seale and Phenix City.
