The Birmingham Barons return home this week to begin an 11-game home stand beginning with a five-game series against in-state rival and Southern League North Division leader Montgomery Biscuits.
Game one of the five-game set will be Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. at Regions Field. The first 1,000 adults receive a free Barons T-shirt. It is also Dollar Hot Dog Night. It will be a short turnaround Wednesday when the teams travel to historic Rickwood Field for the annual Rickwood Classic at 12:30 p.m.
Birmingham returns home looking to climb out of the bottom of the Southern League North standings, having lost four of five games at Chattanooga this past week.
Ti’Quan Forbes hit .500 (7-14) in the series with four runs scored and six walks, while Mitch Roman also hit .500 (4-8) with two RBI. Luis Alexander Basabe drove in a team-best eight runs and scored three while hitting .333 (7-21) with four walks during the series. Laz Rivera hit .444 (8-18) with two runs scored and an RBI.
Kyle Kubat (3-1) recorded the win for the Barons in an 11-7 win on Friday, May 24. Roman hit 4-for-5 in the win, while Forbes hit 3-for-4 with four RBI. Blake Rutherford was 2-3 in the win three RBI.
Montgomery, which won last month’s series with the Barons, 4-1, enters the series having lost six of its last eight games played, including four straight this past week at home to the Jackson Generals.
Other promotions during the week include Thirsty Thursday on May 30, LGBTQ Night and Friday Night Fireworks on May 31, and Space Jam Night on Saturday, June 1, with the first 1,000 fans receiving a “Tune Squad” jersey from the 1996 movie, which had a nod to Michael Jordan’s 1994 season with the Barons.
Starting on Family Sunday, June 2, the Barons will host a six-game series with Jackson, including a Monday night doubleheader at 5 p.m.
