Pinson Valley was able to take the lead late in its game against Hueytown, emerging with a 6-2 victory over Hueytown Friday morning.
Hueytown got to work early scoring a run in the first inning when Courtney McGraw doubled and scored.
The Indians were behind 2-1 in the top of the fifth inning, but a single by Jordan Walker on a 1-1 count scored two runs and turned things around.
Walker had the win for the Indians. She pitched for seven innings and gave up two runs on three hits. Walker struck out nine and walked one.
Faith Bryam had the loss for Hueytown. She pitched for six innings. Bryam gave up 11 hits and six runs. She struck out two.
Savannah Mayes, Hope Cole, Walker, Ka’Mya Hampton and Shauna Clevenger each had a hit for Pinson Valley.
“The girls fought really hard,” said head coach Matt Hicks. “They stayed in the game. They started off a little slow but found a way to win and played really good defense.”
Hueytown had one error in the game.
Pinson Valley had two errors in the game.
