TRUSSVILLE – The Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss by giving a Dr. Seuss book to kindergarten students at Magnolia Elementary on Monday, March 4, and at Paine Elementary on Wednesday, March 6. These Rotarians have been working hard to instill the love of reading in young readers by regular reading sessions with local students for many years. Several members of the Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club give of their time every Wednesday morning to help these students improve their reading skills by listening while the students read to them.
Mary Jean Sanspree, an active member of the Rotary Club, came up with the idea of presenting books to the children several years ago.

“The kids are always so excited to have their very own Dr. Seuss books,” Sanspree said. “It is great to see the smiles on their faces as each one opens his or her book.”
Rotarian Fran Aldridge now coordinates the program.
“We are always looking for readers,” Aldridge said. “Now that there are three elementary schools, we need more readers to meet the needs of more kindergarten classes.”
Rotarians and friends helping out with the book distribution were Fran Aldridge, Mary Jean Sanspree, Linda Burns, David and Betty Cork, John and Sandy Patterson, Ann Smith, Jeremy Tuggle and Van Horne.
“The kids were excited to receive such a generous gift,” said Trussville educator Lee Swatzell. “It gives them a great feeling of accomplishment as Dr. Seuss books allow them the opportunity to practice many of the reading skills we’ve learned in kindergarten!”
