BIRMINGHAM — A homicide investigation is underway after a Moody woman died from injuries after being taken to St. Vincent’s East Hospital on Sunday.
According to Sgt. Johnny Williams of the Birmingham Police Department, a homicide investigation is ongoing into the incident, which occurred on Sunday at approximately 5:42 p.m is underway.
The victim was identified as Jennifer Marie Lane, 31, of Moody.
Williams said officers from the East Precinct responded to St. Vincent’s East Hospital to investigate a report of an injured female that appeared to have suffered an assault.
“Officers arrived and learned that the female had succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff,” Williams said. “Officers also located and detained the male suspect that transported the female to the hospital by private vehicle.”
According to Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates, Lane’s death was due injuries sustained in an assault.
Williams said investigators received information that Lane and the suspect were involved in a domestic physical altercation at 817 82nd St. S. before she was transported to the hospital.
The suspect was taken into custody at the hospital.
