TRUSSVILLE – 21 teams participated in the First Annual Smokin’ & Stokin’ BBQ Festival on Saturday in the parking lot of Hall Motorsports at 6351 South Chalkville Road.
The event was produced by the Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club and it featured a BBQ competition, kids activities, music by local musicians Brinkley Rackstraw, Chloe Hamrick, Makenzie Ward, and Madison Ward, food trucks, soft drinks, a corn hole tournament, and a big screen TV for watching college football games.
Attendees had the opportunity to vote for their favorite Boston butt. The $350 cash prize for the crowd favorite was presented to “Blowin’ Smoke.” Sweet Cheeks Pit BBQ from Muscle Shoals won $150 for the Best Booth Set-up.
Winners for best chicken were:
First Place – Redbones of Florence
Second Place – Backyard Grilling and Smoking of Springville
Third Place – Hell on Squeals of Madison
Winners for best ribs were:
First Place – Lee-La-Q of Cullman
Second Place – Smokology of Trussville
Third Place- Perfectly Blended of Vance
First place winners in each category received a cash prize of $250, second place received $200, and third place received $100.
Reserve Champion, and the recipient of a $500 cash prize, was Sweet Cheeks Pit BBQ from Muscle Shoals.
The Grand Champions, who took home a $1,000 cash prize, was Hell on Squeals from Madison.
