BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham City Council voted Tuesday to delay consideration of its FY 2018 budget, BirminghamWatch reports.
Despite a push from Council President Valerie Abbott to pass the budget, which is already several months late — the fiscal year started on July 1 — other councilors balked, arguing that Mayor-elect Randall Woodfin and the council’s three newly elected members had not yet been given the opportunity for input. Current Mayor William Bell’s lack of willingness to discuss the budget with the council also played a role.
Eventually, the council voted to bring up the budget during a to-be-scheduled committee meeting next month.
