BIRMINGHAM – The Birmingham Police Department is investigating a homicide after an incident on Wednesday.
Officers were called to the 3200 block just before 1 a.m. on a person being assaulted. Upon arrival, officers found the victim in the parking lot of the apartment complex suffering from a wound to the body.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue pronounced the victim dead on the scene. The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was seen by a witness hanging around outside of an abandoned apartment and was seen walking away form the apartment before collapsing in the parking lot. A witness said after the incident, an unknown male came to his apartment door with a possible cut to one hand asking for a towel. The witness refused and the unknown male fled the scene. The unknown male’s involvement is not at this time.
Residents of the complex said people routinely hang out in the vacant apartment to consume alcohol and drugs.
