Trussville resident organizes hot meal for public servants

TRUSSVILLE – For one Trussville resident, acts of kindness are a part of every day life. One special act of kindness came to fruition over the weekend, when Beverly Cross organized a hot meal for public servants on Saturday.

Cross said with all the negativity surrounding public servants recently, she wanted to so something to show appreciation for those who lay their lives on the line for others daily.

“I thought the holiday season is the perfect time to show them how much we appreciate everything they do for us,” Cross said. “In my eyes, heroes are people who lay their lives on the line to protect others. We should all go out of our way to bless them the way they bless us every day.”

Cross called the Trussville police station to ask what the best day would to bring food, and from there posted on What’s Happening in Trussville to round up volunteers to bring dishes.

“I thought posting it on What’s Happening in Trussville on Facebook would be a great help because there’s over 27,000 members,” Cross said. “My thoughts are to have food for them on the weekends of the third, tenth and seventeenth. I wanted to have enough food and drinks that they could eat all weekend on the stuff we bring.”

Cross said 12 people brought various dishes for around 20 public servants this weekend.

“They were all wonderful to take the time to bless these heroes with their kindness,” Cross said.

Cross said that she didn’t think there was enough food to feed everyone all weekend, but she hopes the next two weekends are bigger and better.

“I’ve loved talking to and meeting some very special and kind people who messaged me about helping,” Cross said. “I truly believe we are all here to serve others. When you serve others you are serving God.”

“When you have around 20 men eating you need lots of food to get through the weekend,” Cross said. Cross also said if anyone would like to help but they don’t want to cook, they can donate money for the purchase of food, drinks, paper products, etc. Any money leftover at the end of the next two weekends will be donated to Toys for Tots.
