IRONDALE – Police are on the scene of a hit-and-run on I20 near Kilgore Memorial Drive.
Alabama State Troopers and the Irondale Police Department responded to the scene around 11:30 a.m. The crash occurred in the westbound lanes, and a
search is underway for the motorist who fled the scene, according State Troopers.
Richard Leon Mitchell, 74 of Moody, was killed when the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado he was driving collided with a blue or black Dodge vehicle, potentially a newer model Charger. A BOLO has been issued for a black man driving a the described vehicle, with tinted windows and damage on the left rear quarter panel.
Witnesses said what appeared to be a pickup truck was traveling westbound when another car clipped the truck, causing it to lose control. Authorities believe the wreck began on the Kilgore overpass, with the truck traveling into the woods before coming to a stop.
Anyone that believes they’ve seen the suspect should call 911.
