BIRMINGHAM – The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation after an incident on Sunday.
The incident occurred in the 1100 block of Cotton Avenue around 11:16 p.m. Officers responded to the location on reports of a person shot, and found the
victim lying at the rear of a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds to the body.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and pronounced Willy brown, 41 of Birmingham, dead at the scene.
There was no suspect at the scene, but officers were notified later that the suspect wanted to turn himself in. Officers went to the suspect’s location and detained him.
Upon further investigation, detectives found the victim and suspect were going to the same location to visit a female, who was hosting a gathering. Words were exchanged between the men, which resulted in the suspect shooting the victim.
It is unclear at this time whether both men presented firearms before the shooting. Witnesses from the scene did not cooperate with detectives.
