Go Fund Me created for Ron Johnson “the tomato man”

TRUSSVILLE — A Go Fund Me has been created for Ron Johnson, fondly known in the Trussville area as “the tomato man.”

Johnson passed away on Monday after making a delivery to the farmer’s market. He died in his car on Caraway Boulevard, on the way to make another delivery. Johnson had terminal cancer in his tongue and throat.

The Go Fund Me reads as follows:

Ron has been a staple of our community for decades as a local produce distributor, a loving husband, father and grandfather.

In the past year Ron had battled cancer in his tounge and throat and appeared to be winning but in the end it took a toll on him both physically and financially so we are raising funds to help with home expenses as Ron was primary caretaker for his wife and granddaughter
