The Hewitt-Trussville Middle School cross country teams competed well individually and as teams at the Metro South meet at Veterans Park.
The HTMS boys took first place, nipping Oak Mountain by a point, while the girls came in fifth.
Nathan Knox led the boys with a second-place finish. He ran the 2 miles in 11:22.17. Aaron Himes was sixth in 11:54.01. Nic Coffey, Kellen Rutherford and Andrew Guarino were 11th-13th, and Blake Bailey (16th) and Bobby Stanberry (23rd) completed the scorers for the Huskies.
Clay-Chalkville Middle finished 12th. Leading the way for the Cougars was Saul Aguirre, who was 130th with a time of 14:02.85. He picked up 64 points. Dominick Byrd, Jonathan Limon, Connor Massey and Matthew Johnson all scored for the Cougars.
Amelia Brady led the HTMS girls with a first-place finish, running the 2-mile course in 12:22.40.
Maci Mills was 11th, followed by Hannah O’Kelley, Taylor Doss, Sadie Morgan, Laura Claire Bollinger and Zoe Waldrup.
